Dental Cleanings and Exams Near You
Patients are frequently encouraged to book routine dental cleanings and exams with a dentist, but why? The short answer is so your smile can remain healthy. During these visits, your teeth and gums will be assessed and cleaned of debris. This helps prevent a variety of problems like cavities and infections. Regular appointments allow your dentist to stay on top of any issues that may arise.
If you’re ready to schedule your next dental exam and cleaning, please get in touch with us at Frederick Dental. Our dentist near you looks forward to seeing you.

What is a Dental Exam?
Dental exams are an inspection of your smile. Your dental team can understand the state of your dental health and make personalized recommendations to fix various issues.
When you come into our dental practice, here is what you can expect during an exam:
- Evaluation: Our dentist will examine your teeth, tissues, tongue, and the top and bottom of your mouth with a small mirror.
- X-Rays: Dental x-rays allow dentists to assess the structures below gums, like the jawbone, nerves, and tooth roots. Here at Frederick Dental, all our x-rays are done digitally, meaning significantly less radiation exposure compared to traditional film ones.
- Discussion: You’ll be asked about your dental and medical history and hygiene habits.
If you have questions about your smile, don’t hesitate to let us know so we can address them right away.
What is a Dental Cleaning?
A dental cleaning is the process of removing unhealthy particles from your teeth and gums. This treatment is often paired with a dental exam since they’re complimentary and can be done in a single session.
The steps of a routine cleaning are:
- Scaling. Our dentist in Kitchener will start by removing any plaque and tartar from your teeth and along the gum line. This doesn’t hurt, but you may hear a slight scraping noise.
- Brushing and Flossing. We’ll brush your smile with gritty toothpaste to eliminate stains, then floss to eliminate any lingering debris.
- Rinse. You can spit and rinse out your mouth before the final step.
- Fluoride. Fluoride promotes mineral absorption in teeth to keep them strong. The fluoride can be a gel, varnish, or foam. It sits on your smile for one minutes, then you can rinse once again.
- And that’s all there is to it! We will help you schedule a follow-up visit six months later.
